Works independently, is self-motivated and accountable for testing, inspection, routine and preventative maintenance, installations and programming of patient care equipment and systems throughout the organization. Follows duty schedule. Performs highly skilled work of considerable difficulty. May specialize in certain types of equipment. Participates in the Biomedical on-call program. May be designated as charge relief when needed.

  

  • Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.
  • Performs equipment inspections to assure continuous and proper functionality and to minimize unexpected breakdown. Has good knowledge of schematics and service manuals.
  • Participates in special projects as needed.
  • Operates departmental maintenance management software program. Prepares and submits order requisitions in accordance with current policies, and maintains minimum levels of stock parts.
  • Advises the staff on proper use and maintenance of equipment. Communicates with vendors, technicians, physicians, managers, and other internal customers regarding scheduling of maintenance and repairs, status, and follow-up.
  • Documents works performed, and test results on proper forms and logs. Maintains historical files on equipment upgrades and maintenance.
  • Uses appropriate tools, service manuals, test simulators, and safety precautions as needed. Identifies parts needed in service manuals or other sources.
  • Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe. Applies proper safety procedures in the use of tools, machinery, and supplies, including the use of appropriate safety equipment and apparel.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings, and completes paperwork documenting attendance.

 

 

 To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Associates degree or a 2-year Technical Certificate of Completion and 5 years of hospital experience preferred. 
  • In lieu of a BMET Degree a candidate needs 2 years of electronics training AND a minimum of 5 years Biomedical Technician experience working in a healthcare environment.

  • FL Driver's License.
