 Job Summary:


This position is proficiently skilled in Sterile Processing Technologies to include cleaning, disinfection, inspection, assembly and sterilization of instruments, supplies, linens and assembly of surgical case carts in Central Sterile Reprocessing in accordance with established policies, procedures and industry standards. This position must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


Maintains established departmental policies and procedures while adhering to departmental quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes instrumentation of all departments according to established policies and procedures.

Stores supplies, instrument trays, and equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures and industry standards.  

Receives requests for patient care equipment and delivers to unit in a timely manner. 

Performs biological and chemical testing of sterilization equipment in accordance with quality assurance standards.

Ensures complete and accurate assembly of surgical and code carts.

Participates in education programs, in-service meetings and demonstrates knowledge of assigned specialty.

Functions as preceptor and assists in the development of associate skill sets. 

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Other Functions:




High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Current certification in Central Sterile Technology required.

Ability to work in a structured environment with attention to detail using effective communication skills.

Minimum of two years of Central Sterile experience required

Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize work in a high stress area.

Computer skills preferred.

Must demonstrate the following physical requirements:

Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing 20–50 pounds

Must be able to walk at least 6-8 hours per day 

This position requires the ability to lift, push, pull or move supplies and equipment and handle chemicals and detergents, and may require a flexible work schedule to include weekends and holidays.

Ability to operate automated and technical equipment.
