JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Dietitian provides group and individual medical nutrition counseling including assessment of nutritional status, nutrition care planning, counseling and evaluation. Additional responsibilities include marketing and program development to generate referrals. Conducts community nutrition education. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Other duties may be assigned.


  • The Clinical Dietitian provides comprehensive education to individuals affected by diabetes including assisting patients in the development of self-management skills as well as survival skills in the newly diagnosed or poorly controlled.

  • Provides instruction in complex insulin regimens and prevention of acute short term complications.

  • Provides instruction in the use of inject able non-insulin and insulin products.

  • Knowledgeable in the Use of technology to optimize glycemic control including glucose monitors, lancet devices, insulin pens, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors.

  • Provides nutrition education/counseling to all clients as scheduled within the designated appointment timeframe. Documents counseling sessions in client's medical records.

  • Develops and implements weight management program curriculum for employee and community. Coordinates two 12-week programs annually. Conducts program evaluation.

  • Maintains/collects necessary documentation for Diabetes Program Certification annually.

  • Communicates with health team members, department staff, to coordinate client's nutrition care to ensure efficient and accurate communication.

  • Conducts nutrition education programs for other departments as assigned (eg, Cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab). .

  • Looks for opportunities to generate referrals to the diabetes education program through community events and/or presentations.. Generates referrals to the Pre-Diabetes Seminar and other department programs including Wellness Center programs.

  • Assists with developing revenue-generating programs that would enhance the community. Investigates marketing outlets and assist with the design of marketing material for the programs.

  • Schedules client appointments and processes clients in the absence of the clerical staff. 

  • Attends staff meetings and other departmental meetings as assigned.

  • Conducts education programs at designated businesses. Develops and delivers seminars for assigned community events.

  • Assists with marketing the department programs to the community, physicians, businesses, affiliates, and hospital patients.  

  • Completes other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and organization.

  • Creates a warm, courteous, friendly environment for our clients to ensure positive feedback and possibly additional program participation to increase department revenue. .

  • Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.

  • Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.

  • Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.

  • Communicates, coordinates, monitors and documents the plan of care

  • Assesses the outcome of nutrition intervention and revises the plan as appropriate

  • Conducts support groups for diabetes and nutrition

  • Uses age appropriate learning methods, appropriate behavioral/motivational strategies and reinforcement techniques

  • Demonstrates understanding of stages of behavior change and ability to counsel individuals on these stages through development of behavior change goals

  • Assesses patient readiness to learn and patient perceived needs.

  • Facilitates educational/behavioral experiences that assist the patient in achieving identified goals.

  • Effectively applies evidence-based research to enhance practice 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in nutrition or a related field required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Dietician

  • Licensed and registered as a dietician in the State of Florida

  • Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)

  • Certified Weight Management Dietician (adult or pediatrics) preferred or completed within 6 months of hire
