  • Job Summary:

    The ECMO coordinator is responsible for the activities surrounding the operations of the ECMO program on a 24 hour basis. This includes leadership and direction of personal with the coordination of ancillary departments. The coordinator will participate in the assessment of staff and program performance. The coordinator will be the liaison between ECMO specialists/staff, Nursing, Department Managers and directors, Physicians and Hospital Administration. They have accountability and responsibility for the effective and efficient use of workforce, performance improvement initiatives, and material resources by the department. This individual must also work as an independent leader and work in collaboration with the Operations Manager/Director ensuring excellent communication for a consistent approach to clinical operations for best patient care.

    Minimum Job Qualifications:

    Minimum experience - Two years or greater experience in a critical care area

    Licensure or other certifications- Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

    Educational Requirements:

    Minimum- Associates' degree, Preferred Bachelors'

    Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    •             Demonstrates support for short, mid, and long range planning for hospital and departmental operations

    •             Foresight in problem recognition, resolution, and action plan documentation

    •             Effective communication skills-good oral, written, and computer communication skills with fellow supervisors and staff

    •             Routinely evaluates the ECMO quality of operations.

     Responsibilities:

    •             Develops, coordinates and implements an educational program for ECMO Specialists including; certification training, routine in-services, re-certification (yearly and routine), and competency training. Collects and ensures ECMO specialists/staff competencies and certification records.

    •             Oversees ECMO program development: Develops, maintains and updates all policies, procedures and standards of care.

    •             ECMO COORDINATOR Adheres to goals and objectives of the department and undertakes comprehension and explanation of variances

    •             Develops, performs and maintains quality initiatives to audit outcomes and patient follow ups. Collect and maintain the ELSO Registry.

    •             May serve on hospital committees or help with clinical pathways, protocols, standard of work, or orderset creation or modification that involve the ECMO program.

    •             Regularly meets with and communicates technical and operational changes to staff to ensure they are aware of information that may affect their work. Seeks input and recommendations on ways to improve operations. Meets with Medical director, ancillary managers/directors, and Hospital administration as needed.

    •             Assists LVAD Coordinator as needed
